Locating Instructor
The instructor will call the class up when it is their time to swim. They will enter the pool and start class. If you arrive late and the class has already started, please walk you child up the deck and get the attention of the instructors or deck supervisor. The instructor will then direct the child to the class. Please, no running on the deck or ramp.
Ramp in the Pool
The ramp in the pool is where students will enter the water for their lessons. Please hold onto the rail at all times.
Safety Islands
We use "islands" in our pool which are clear acrylic with color squares to show the top of the island. The clear acrylic is for safety to insure no one is under the island. The safety island provides a safe place for students to sit or lie down on in the warm water. We do not want student to hang on the walls or sit on the edges. We encourage you to discuss rules about the island with your child. This reinforcement is greatly appreciated.
Safety Instructions
Along with the facility instructions, we have some personal instructions as well. Children will be instructed:
- to stay on the island
- never swim under island
- do not push other children off island
- no splashing unless it is part of lesson
- no hitting other children
- no throwing toys
- torpedoes pushed under water only
We encourage you to discuss rules about the island and the facility with your child. This reinforcement is greatly appreciated.
Preparing for Class
Arrive to lessons early the first day to fill out any paperwork or to ask any questions you may have. Class does start on time. Therefore, children need to be ready when the instructor calls their name. Children can arrive in their swimsuit or use our changing rooms to get ready. Talk to your child before coming to class about how much fun swimming will be and help them build excitement for learning. This will help prevent nervousness and help your child benefit as much as possible from the lesson.
Diaper Use
Children who are not potty trained must wear a reusable, washable pool diaper. The disposable ones are just not snug enough. We have diapers for sale in the office for $8, or you can go to any local Wal-Mart.
Hair
Any hair that can eventually get into the mouth or eyes needs to be in a cap, braided, or tied back with a rubber band. Little hair clips will also keep the bangs from falling down on the face. Plastic clips alone will not work. If hair is in the face or eyes, a child on their back will lift hands out of the water to try to remove hair which will result in sinking.
Goggles
Goggles are not required but if your child is going to wear them, please take the time to adjust them to fit snug on your child's face. They must be snug; if you can hold the nose bridge and easily pull them away from the face, they will leak. They should fit the child's face tight. Since they will most likely be the only ones wearing them, tie the ends in a knot so the straps do not keep coming loose. We know you are paying for lessons, not goggle adjustment. Therefore, class time will be more valuable if students know how to put on their own goggles. Print the child's name on their goggle straps incase they misplace them. Spend time at home working with your child on how to place their goggles off without pulling on the straps.
